If you’re getting a Two Step stool, you will want to look at my earlier post here. In that post, I recommend RubberMaid. Rubbermaid makes Hot Stools. Great Stools. I chose Rubbermaid for my best Two Step Stool, but I am going with Cosco for this Three Step Stool. But, please read about my Cosco brand concerns at the bottom of this post:
COSCO THREE STEP STOOL
What to Look for in a Three Step Stool:
1). Safety/Durability: Nothing turns me off worse than a stool or ladder that isn’t safe or that wobbles. It just isn’t worth it. Even if it is cheap. The Cosco and Rubbermaid brands are tough. I think the Rubbermaid is tougher. We went with Cosco because it was $30 dollars cheaper. It is great. We have never had a problem with it and the kids use it all the time:
2). Price: If you are approaching or over $100 dollars for a stool, you are paying too much. Unless you are using the stool for your job (ie painting, construction, etc). I am talking about kitchen stools. Stools around the home. Rubbermaid makes the high end at $70 and Cosco makes the mid range at $45. Either of these are great values.
3). Easy to Store: Get a stool that collapses easily and stores nicely. Here is a video of the Cosco stool collapsing very easily:
4). Look: A good stool should look good. It is going to be in your house all of the time. It might as well look like a good piece of furniture:

Concerns about Cosco Brand?
Yes. My one concern is with the “slippery feet” that they talk about on Amazon Reviews. It does tend to slip on hardwoods. For this REASON alone, if you have hardwoods and will be using it on hardwoods, you are better off going with the Rubbermaid. We use our COSCO on this gritty tile surface and don’t notice the slippage. Yet, it is a concern.
So, if you are planning on using a stool on Hardwoods, I will change my top choice to:
